Back in 2013, a small film titled 'Barister Shankar Naarayan' hit the cinemas. The film had Rajkumar, known as the 'Small Screen Megastar' and 'Second Chiranjeevi', in dual roles. It was the actor's self-produced family entertainer.
Thanks to the support of Ramoji Rao's distribution company and Nizam distributor Suniel Narang, the film secured a very good release in theatres in the Telugu States on September 21, 2013.
"I spent Rs 80 lakh on publicity alone. Unfortunately, two days after my movie's theatrical release, the first half of 'Attarintiki Daredi' got leaked. The makers of Pawan Kalyan's movie advanced the release date from October to September 27. As a result, my movie was removed from theatres just a few days after its release. In the second week, I was left with just 15 theatres. It was a body blow. Due to 'Barrister Shankar Naarayan' flopping, I lost Rs 3 Cr. Had I invested the amount in real estate, its value now would have been Rs 30 Cr," Rajkumar recently said.
Quite frankly, the film's trailer itself was so hard to watch. Rakumar was seen in the role of an elderly judge fashioned after Major Chandrakanth, the NTR character. With or without Pawan's movie, the film was ill-fated.
