Ajith's 'Prema Pusthakam' was made in 1993. At that time, he was a budding artist with no fame even in Tamil Nadu. The romantic film remains his only Telugu film to date.
It was to be directed by Gollapudi Srinivas, the son of Gollapudi Maruthi Rao. As fate would have it, Srinivas died on the sets of the film nine days into the shoot. The project was temporarily shelved, only for Maruthi Rao to take it over from where it was left. 'Prema Pusthakam' went on to earn three Nandi Awards and win over the audience's applause.
The film's pooja event was graced by Chiranjeevi as the chief guest.
Despite the decent success of 'Prema Pusthakam', Ajith was not interested to continue as an actor. He planned to pursue a thriving career in auto racing. A near-fatal accident forced him to change his plans. Years later, he would become one of the biggest stars of Tamil cinema.
