Tollywood elders call for justice in Kolkata rape case

Celebrities from the Telugu film industry have expressed solidarity with the family of the victim of the recent Kolkata rape-and-murder incident. In this regard, the elders of Tollywood have issued statements.

Speaking on the occasion, Writer's Association Secretary Anuradha said that her union strongly condemns the savage incident in Kolkata. She spoke of the urgent need to create a safe environment for women. Damodar Prasad expressed his shock at the incident, which has shaken the conscience of the nation. He spoke of the need to bring up our children responsibly as our duty.

Jeevitha Rajasekhar said that girls, who are excelling across areas, can instinctively sense it when a harasser is around them. "They stay at home when they encounter potential predators. We all need to ensure that they feel safe," she added.

Directors' Association President Veera Shankar said that crimes need to be controlled by the police promptly. "Parents should take proper care of their children. Actors, filmmakers and the public in general who have the power to influence should speak out on behalf of the Telugu film industry. They should write letters and emails to the Prime Minister and the CBI in the wake of the evident lack of urgency shown by the Mamata Banerjee government," he added.

MAA Vice-President Madala Ravi called for punishing "humanoid monsters" who are responsible for the Kolkata incident anon. He added that a Women's Security Cell exists in Tollywood. "Each member was given that cell's contact details. Women can contact the authorities in case of any concern. We will ensure their confidentiality. She Teams also exist. Apps must be used by women in case of any emergency," he added.

'Maa Oori Polimera 2' actress Kamakshi Bhaskarla said, "We need to build a safe society for women and men. We need to stop blaming the dress women wear for crimes like rapes."
