The Telugu Film Distributor and Exhibitor Association has reportedly spoken out against trade websites that have been "disseminating unverified data" regarding the monies raked in by Tollywood movies at the box office. The Association feels that the publication of "unauthorized numbers" leads to unintended consequences and spells troubles for exhibitors and distributors.
Primarily, the publication of unauthorized data, as per the Association, leads to "tax raids, strained relationships between producers, and unnecessary friction between fans". In this regard, "Several box office handles on social media platforms have been under scrutiny for their practice of posting collection figures without proper authorization. This has not only raised concerns within the film industry but has also contributed to a slew of problems, prompting the association to step in and take corrective action."
The lack of transparency in reporting BO figures has been a pressing concern. "We are hereby taking a proactive approach to rectify the situation. We need a more regulated and responsible reporting system, alleviating the tensions that have arisen due to the unauthorized release of box office collection numbers," the statement says.
