'Kalki 2898 AD', ahead of its theatrical release on June 27, is in the news because a South Korean artist named Sung Choi has accused Vyjayanthi Movies of resorting to plagiarism. Sung Choi is a concept artist. As per media reports, he has worked in the past with Marvel Studios, Disney, Warner Bros, Bungie, Wizards of the Coast and Netflix Animation.
Sharing a screenshot from the movie's trailer, he wrote, "Unauthorized use of artwork is a bad practice. This makes me question doing art in this lawless environment."
The plagiarism charge is pretty serious but won't have any consequences since Indian copyright laws are a joke.
The Nag Ashwin directorial, meanwhile, is on a record-breaking spree in the US. It has become the fastest movie to cross one million dollars with pre-sales in the USA, breaking the record previously held by SS Rajamouli's 'RRR'.
