Shankar has revealed that, way back in 2008, he conceived a cinematic universe in his mind. When he shared the idea with his assistants, they were in disbelief that he could even think such an idea would be possibly liked by the audience.
“In 2008, I was filming 'Robot' ('Enthiran' in Tamil). That's when I wanted to make a story that involves Senapathy (Kamal Haasan's character from 'Bharateeyudu'), the one-day chief minister (from 'Oke Okkadu'), and Sivaji (from Rajinikanth's film of the same name) in one film,” Shankar has been quoted as saying by News18.
Shankar feels that it would have been India's 'The Avengers'-like cinematic universe had he gone ahead and made such a film with the three iconic characters.
A cinematic universe involving three exciting Shankar characters would have been a blast and a vigilante film for the ages. It would also have been made successfully in two years, that too at a time when AR Rahman was in great form.
