It is known that business tycoon Adar Poonawalla has acquired a 50% stake in Karan Johar's Dharma Productions and Dharmatic Entertainment. The deal's value is Rs 1,000 crore.
A section of the Telugu movie audience base on social media has given an immature, uneducated spin to the development. As per many social media handles with a needlessly history of attacking Jr NTR, Dharma Productions' financial health took a toll after it acquired the theatrical release rights to 'Devara' for north India.
'Devara' netted Rs 60 Cr in Hindi. The value of the theatrical deal is unknown. But it is safe to say that Karan Johar must have attained breakeven.
Dharma Productions was in talks with others, especially Saregama, for months. Its presumed financial difficulties have nothing to do with 'Devara'.
A concerted campaign has been on to defame Jr NTR and his movie. 'Devara' is a big hit and there are no two ways about it. At the minimum, it grossed Rs 410 Cr (although 80% of the collections came from the Telugu version).
