Malayalam crime thriller 'Oppam', thanks to its content and the scale of BO collections, has been one of the most popular Mollywood movies outside Kerala in a long time. Pipping the records set by 'Drishyam' and 'Premam', this Mohan Lal-starrer has grossed in a resounding way. In 3 weeks, the Priyadarshan-directed movie has raked in more than Rs. 27 cr. gross.
Telling the story of a blind elevator operator (a challenging role essayed with panache by the redoubtable Complete Actor), who has to nab the actual killer when he is wrongly charged with a murder at the apartment, the film comes with nuanced ideas like Mohan Lal's character possessing certain extra-ordinary sensory powers.
Bowled over by the content, many producers tried their best for the remake rights of this movie. Finally, Overseas Network Entertainment clinched a deal, which gives it both dubbing and remake rights. B Dilip Kumar of the aforementioned company is ready to jointly release the movie in Telugu with Mohan Lal.
Since the Malayalam superstar has endeared himself to Telugu audience with two back-to-back films ('Manamantha' and 'Janatha Garage') in recent times, 'Oppam' will be awaited in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
It has to be seen if 'Oppam' will be dubbed or remade into Telugu.
