Chiranjeevi's blockbuster movie 'Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari' completes 30 years on 9th May. This movie, directed by K.Raghavendra Rao, produced by C Ashwini Dutt and starring Sri Devi opposite Chiru, released on 9th May, 1990 and turned out to be one of the biggest hits ever in the history of Telugu Cinema.
Vyjayanthi movies banner celebrates 30 years of JVAS and on this occasion, 'Natural Star' Nani tells us how a small idea turned out to be such a big blockbuster.
"It was Ashwini Dutt's dream to make a movie like NTR's 'Jagadheka Veeruni Katha' with Chiranjeevi and he knew that only his 'baava' K.Raghavendra Rao can helm such a project. After 'Aakhari Poratam', he decided to do a movie with Chiranjeevi. He sent his close friend, writer Srinivasa Chakravarthi to Tirumula with Raghavendra Rao. When they were on Tirumala, Srinivasa Chakravarthi bounced an idea off 'Darshakendrudu'. "A Deva Kanya loses her ring when she comes to earth and Chiranjeevi finds it", this is the idea. Raghavendra Rao liked it. Ashwini Dutt felt it was very close to his dream and he too loved the idea. Everyone felt only Sridevi can do justice to the role of 'Athiloka Sundari'. The crazy combination was set and to prepare a good story around the idea, many legendary writers came together at Vyjayanthi movies office. Yandamuri Veerendranath, Jandyala, Satyamurthy, Vijayendra Prasad, Tamil writer Crazy Mohan came together as an army. Chiranjeevi too participated in the story sittings and gave some inputs. He suggested that if he look with a little stubble like a common man beside the Deva Kanya, audiences would get connected well. On the other hand, Sridevi looked after her costumes design in Bombay. Everyone contributed to this fairy tale story", narrated Nani.
