In July 2019, producers Allu Aravind, Madhu Mantena and Namith Malhotra came together to announce a film based on the Ramayana. Back then, the buzz was that its budget was Rs 500 Cr. After the pandemic struck less than a year later, it was assumed that Geetha Arts and Prime Focus had kept the project on the back burner.
But that's not the case. Allu Aravind has said that the project has been in the pre-production phase for 18 months now. The multi-lingual release is going to go on the floors in April or May 2023. In other words, it is going to go on the floors nearly four years after it was first announced. And the release could take at least two years. Which means, the film will head to theatres in 2025 Summer or so.
'Dangal' director Nitesh Tiwari and 'MOM' director Ravi Udyawar were associated with the project when it was announced originally. It is not clear if they continue to be on the project even now.
Unlike 'Adipurush', it is not an animated movie.
