On Wednesday, the Centre allowed the reopening of theatres, cinemas and multiplexes across the country from October 15. Only a maximum of 50% occupancy would be allowed. The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting will be releasing Standard Operating Procedures. And States will take decisions based on local conditions. Containment Zones will continue to see theatres shut down.
The Multiplex Association of India has welcomed the Centre's decision. "We are committed to ensuring a safe, secure and hygienic cinema-going experience for the movie-lovers of our country," its statement said.
The statement added that "urgent permission by state governments will go a substantial distance in ensuring that the cinema exhibition sector is able to quickly recover" from the economic crisis.
