'Laal Singh Chaddha' was released today in theatres in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil. Across the country, its opening-day collections are lukewarm.
Meanwhile, Netizens are trolling Aamir Khan for an allegedly controversial and insensitive dialogue in the movie. In one of the scenes, a reformed terrorist from Pakistan asks Laal Singh (Aamir Khan) why he never does 'puja', which means nothing more than religious worship. Replying to him, Laal Singh says that such things only lead to 'malaria', which is a byword for religious fanaticism. The protagonist is an atheist in the movie.
The line is problematic as per Netizens. "You don't become a fanatic just by doing worship of God. Fanaticism, orthodoxy and bigotry are different from rituals and belief in God," a Facebook user wrote. As per some social media users, Aamir Khan has only continued his anti-religious propaganda from 'PK' in 'LSC' in order to mock the religious sensitivities of the audience.
The Pakistani terrorist in the film doesn't have an equivalent in the Hollywood original, 'Forrest Gump'. In the original, it was Lt Dan, who belongs to America and not an enemy country. In 'LSC', Laal Singh, an Indian soldier, saves a Pakistani terrorist by mistake and the latter is shown to become his kind-hearted business partner.
