After the release of 'Ponniyin Selvan 1' last year, it was aptly described by critics as Mani Ratnam's magnum opus. It is time for its second installment.
The trailer for 'Ponniyin Selvan 2' is out in all its resplendent glory. The Chola Dynasty is back with a bang. Beneath the verbose and frames-heavy trailer, there lies a thick plot that is both intriguing and engaging.
The visuals are a complete feast. On the quality front, the second edition could be a better one, proving the commitment of Lyca Productions and the super-talented technical team (read cinematographer Ravi Varman, composer AR Rahman and art director Thota Tharani).
The star cast is vivacious. In the run-up to the release of the trailer, the makers highlighted Aishwarya Rai, among others. "The elegant and enchanting beauty of PS2, Nandini, has made her presence at the greatest event of the evening," they wrote. This signifies that 'PS 2' relies heavily on her stardom and character.
Each of the actors (read Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Prabhu, R Sarath Kumar, Vikram Prabhu, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Rahman and Radhakrishnan Parthiban) seem to have got a consequential part in the secon installment as well.
The film is up for a worldwide release on April 28 in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam.
