'Music School', directed by Papa Rao Biyyala (retired IAS officer), features Sharman Joshi, Shriya Saran and actor-singer Shaan in key roles. The film was released in theatres on May 12.
In an interview, director Biyyala said that the film has become out at a time when student suicides have been reported in Telangana. On the day the film hit the cinemas, in a tragic irony, six student suicides were reported in the State after the CBSE results were declared. It goes without saying that toxic academic stress, peer pressure, and parental pressure are the reason for such suicides.
The ideology of 'Music School' stands firmly against a low-brow academic environment that children are subjected to. It calls for the blossoming of creative urges in students by promoting dance, drama, and other art forms. Shriya has played a music teacher in the drama.
A national daily has described 'Music School' as a heart-warming musical drama that "portrays how the existing Indian education system and parents pressure children to be competitive in their studies, leaving no time for art and culture."
Released in Telugu, Hindi and Tamil, its cinematography is by Kiran Deohans and the music is by Maestro Ilaiyaraaja. The film has been released by PVR Cinemas in Hindi and Dil Raju in Telugu.
