Lately, the dream of Telugu cinema is to break into the Rs 1000 Cr club. 'Baahubali 2' did it years ago. 'Salaar' couldn't come anywhere close even though the Prabhas-Prashanth Neel combo was one for the ages.
Speaking at the success meet of 'Tillu Square' on Monday, Trivikram Srinivas hoped that 'Devara' becomes a Rs 1000 Cr movie.
As for Allu Arjun's fans, they are hoping that 'Pushpa 2' becomes a Rs 1000 Cr outing.
Prabhas' fans hope that the futuristic sci-fi movie, 'Kalki 2898 AD', has a real possibility of entering the thousand-crore club.
Are these worthy promises that speak of the confidence of Telugu cinema or are they empty boasts? We need spectacle movies to achieve the seemingly impossible feat. 'Pushpa 2' has a tough task ahead: it needs to feature 30 minutes of breathtaking action and great songs to come anywhere close to becoming a Rs 700 Cr movie (forget Rs 1000 Cr). The challenge ahead for 'Devara' is even bigger, for it is not a sequel to a blockbuster.
