This week, at least two Telugu movies were released after enough advertising about reduced ticket rates. The purpose was to attract footfalls by making ticket rates affordable.
However, as per early trade reports, none of the eight movies released this week managed to garner encouraging collections. Both on single screens and in multiplexes, the audience turnout was below average on Friday.
Reduction of ticket rates has to be a constant feature in Tollywood. Only a fraction of the Telugu audience are aware of lowered rates when done on ad-hoc basis.
Reducing the rates benefit fairly popular releases with good trailers. On August 15, if 'AAY' offers low rates, the response might give an idea about the price elasticity of small movies.
