'Thangalaan' is directed by Pa Ranjith and stars Vikram as the hero. Producer KE Gnanavel Raja of Studio Green said that the film's opening-day collections were the highest in Vikram's career, with a lion's share coming from the Tamil version. In Telugu, 'Thangalaan' is picking up pace. On August 15, it surprised everyone by collecting double the expected figure despite intense competition among the new releases.
"The response in Telugu has exceeded our expectations. The collections are double the figure that we had anticipated. Across A, B, and C centers, our film is generating excellent collections. We hope to reach a total of Rs 200 Cr (worldwide Gross)," Gnanavel Raja says in an interview in Hyderabad.
The film's working days were 118 on locations. "I only visited the set four times and spent two hours there. We gave Pa Ranjith and his team full freedom, trusting their vision," the Kollywood producer reveals. 'Thangalaan' co-stars Parvathy Thirovothu, Malavika Mohanan and Pasupathy.
'Kanguva' on October 10th is Gnanavel Raja's next big release. The period action drama is led by Suriya. "The budgets for films like 'Kanguva' and 'Thangalaan' are hard to estimate with precision due to the nature of the genres. There is always an overshooting of the budget for event films like them. The overshooting can be up to 70%, while it is 20% for other genres," the seasoned producer with lots of experience ponders.
