Kannada actor Rishab Shetty recently won the National Award for Best Actor for his scintillating performance in 'Kantara'. Meanwhile, he has taken a swipe at the Hindi film industry.
"Indian films, especially Bollywood, show India in a bad light. These art films are invited to global events and given a red carpet-welcome. My nation, my state, my language is my pride. Why not show it on a positive note? That's what I am trying to do," the Sandalwood actor has been quoted as saying.
The line of criticism is not novel. In the past, many have blamed the Hindi film industry for projecting India in a poor light in order to secure awards. It is said that India is deliberately shown in an unflattering light whenever Hollywood gets the opportunity. 'Slumdog Millionaire' is a prime example. Bollywood celebs never used the many platforms they got to speak from to criticize the Hollywood movie, obviously because they like such singular portrayals.
'Kantara' fame Rishab Shetty has been criticized by many for his remarks, though.
