Nayanthara's 'Annapoorani' started streaming on Netflix recently. Some portions of the film have hurt Hindu religious sentiments. Nayanthara's character, in a scene, says that making Biryani after offering Namaz brings a special taste to the dish. Hindu Netizens described the Tamil film as "Dravidian propaganda" aimed to "manipulate the minds of Hindus, especially Brahmin women". Nayanthara is a Brahmin chef in the film. She takes to cooking non-veg dishes against the wishes of her father.
Following online protests and a police complaint against the drama, Netflix has voluntarily taken down the film. The streaming giant is no longer streaming 'Annapoorani'.
The film will be up once the so-called offensive portions have been removed. Zee Studios, which is one of the producers of the film, took the decision. In a letter, the production house also apologized to the Vishwa Hindu Parishad. Several Hindutva handles have proudly claimed victory.
