The 2006 action film 'Vikramarkudu', starring Ravi Teja in the lead, is directed by SS Rajamouli. In a particular scene, Ravi Teja's cop character hangs the villain's son to death by tricking him into playing a game. The scene is similar to one of the scenes from an old Vijayashanthi movie. To this day, critics of Rajamouli on social media point to this scene as an example of the director resorting to plagiarism.
In his latest interview, Vijayendra Prasad tried to put the record straight. He absolved his son of all blame by saying that both movies were written by him. "Rajamouli wanted the scene from Vijayashanthi's movie to be re-written for 'Vikramarkudu'. I sought the permission of the producer of Vijayashanthi's movie before using the core idea for Ravi Teja's movie," Prasad said, implying that it is not plagiarism.
The film was remade in Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Indian Bengali and Bangladeshi Bengali.
