Critics have said that 'Kalki 2898 AD' is a hotchpotch of the Mahabharata, 'Avengers', 'Star Wars', 'Dune', 'Transformers' and 'Mad Max'. However, as per the film's fans, slamming 'Kalki' based on this narrative is nothing but an inferiority complex on display.
Many of the Hollywood superhero movies and classics themselves are adaptations. So, Nag Ashwin shouldn't be targeted for drawing ideas from the epic Mahabharata, Netizens say. "I think we Indians are wired with a massive inferiority complex. And that’s why we cannot accept it when someone is pushing the boundaries of Indian blockbuster cinema and that too with an original story, when 99% of the Hollywood films that 'Kalki' is an alleged copy of are all adaptations," Muthu, a social media user, opines.
"No one questions when 'Guardians of the Galaxy' has 'Star Wars' references but when an Asian film does that, you will have problems with it," another Twitter user says.
"Basically, we as an audience are ourselves a big threat to films that aim to push boundaries and directors who have a vision. Whenever a director comes with his vision, we compare it with Hollywood and destroy the director," Swayam Kumar Das opines.
