'Padutha Theeyaga' is the most popular Telugu-language reality television singing show. Aired for decades on ETV Telugu, the show used to be hosted by late SP Balasubrahmanyam until 2020.
After the passing away of the legendary playback singer, the show would have been discontinued but for Ramoji Rao's insistence. Hours after the passing away of Rao today, SP Charan said, "After the demise of my father, the baton was handed to me. It happened only because of Ramoji Rao garu. His perseverance and determination to keep the show going is the reason why 'Padutha Theeyaga' continues to be aired on TV."
SPB had a great time hosting the show for many years. "It's a two-way medium. While I impart my knowledge to youngsters, I also learn so much from them. Some have fabulous voices and amazing classical training. Why should I run them down? I tell the participants that winning isn't all," he once told The Hindu in an interview.
