'Baahubali: The Beginning' in 2015 changed Telugu cinema forever. Its unprecedented contributions have been many, most of them positive. However, some cine-goers opine that it set the ball rolling in at least one negative aspect.
The Rajamouli directorial gave the idea of making two-part movies to a whole bunch of filmmakers. Some of these filmmakers are too inferior to be taken seriously (think of 'Peddha Kapu 2' and 'Gangs of Godavari 2'). Others, like Prashanth Neel and Nag Ashwin, can't be taken lightly. They are big and are cut out for bigger things.
A Twitter user named Tharun Yeluguri opines that Rajamouli, by making the 'Baahubali' movies as a duology, created a bad precedent. "'Salaar: Ceasefire' had nothing to offer in Part-I and so does 'Kalki'. Movies are not web series where the next episode is aired next week. Rs 600 Cr (the budget of 'Kalki') for the mere introduction of characters and three more years for the actual story?" he laments.
Rajamouli, however, must be defended here. The 'Baahubali' duology was completely justified. The cliffhanger of 'Baahubali 1' was awesome; the first part was substantial. It left just one question in the minds of viewers - Kattappa's motive to backstab Amarendra Baahubali.
However, 'Salaar 1' left too many questions in the minds of viewers. Some of the questions probably had no answers in the mind of Neel himself.
There is going to be Indian 3' after 'Indian 2'. There is going to be 'Devara 2'. There is going to be 'Pushpa 3' (rumouredly). There is going to be 'Hari Hara Veera Mallu 2'. There might be 'Triple iSmart' if the audience embrace 'Double iSmart' with double the energy. There is going to be 'Jai HanuMan', which at this point looks like a random sequel. It is exhausting just to list the pending projects on the anvil. Now imagine waiting for those films for years on end!
