Back in the 2000s, Sonali Bendre used to be a popular name in Tollywood. The Telugu audience loved her in Mahesh Babu's 'Murari', Chiranjeevi's 'Indra', Nagarjuna's Manmadhudu', Krishna Vamsi-directed 'Khadgam', and the remake movie 'Shankardada MBBS'. In a recent interview, the former Bollywood actress said that her Bollywood directors and producers were behind the link-up rumours the media used to write about her back in the day. She was probably referring to her 1990s Hindi movies.
“My name was frequently mentioned in gossip columns that linked various male actors. Later, I learned that some of the producers and directors spread rumors in order to generate buzz for the films in which I was acting. It was a cheap tactic,” Sonali has been quoted as saying.
She is not the first one to make such a statement. There is a theory that link-up rumours just before the release of some movies is an orchestrated publicity strategy involving Mumbai-based PR agencies.
