SS Rajamouli has said that the most-watched film in theaters in terms of footfalls attracted 10 crore ticket sales. "Our country's population is 140 crore. Let's suppose that 120 crore people are of movie-watching age. Of these, only 10 crore people watched the biggest ever movie in theatres. The rest 110 crore people never watched the biggest movie in a theatre. They might have watched it on TV," the 'Baahubali' maker said.
After the release of 'RRR' in 2021, Dil Raju shared an interesting facet of Rajamouli's market analysis in an interview. Raju said that Rajamouli would text him every day to ask him about how many movie-goers watched his movie in Nizam on a given day. "He never asks me about collections. He only asks me about footfalls," Raju said.
Rajamouli's focus has always been on widening the movie-going population. Event films are best-suited for this. Successful small films attract only a few lakh people to the cinemas.
