Budget reveal: Silly to expect 'KGF 2' to follow 'RRR'

In the run up to the theatrical release of 'Roudram Ranam Rudhiram', SS Rajamouli stated that the film's budget crossed Rs 336 Cr (excluding remunerations and GST). On that basis, the media pegged the film's budget to be Rs 500 Cr.

When the core team of 'KGF 2' was in Hyderabad on Monday, a scribe asked if the makers would make the budget reveal since 'RRR' team did so in March. The expectation is silly on an important ground.

The makers of 'RRR' didn't reveal the budget to the media. It had to be done to the Cinematography Minister in the Jaganmohan Reddy government. The reveal had to be made because the arbitrary and authoritative Andhra Pradesh government wanted to know the budget so that it could decide on allowing hiked cinema ticket rates.

In usual circumstances, producers of big-budget movies don't make voluntary reveals about the budget of their movies by stating precise figures. They don't tell whether the budget of a movie includes or excludes the remuneration paid to the hero/director. This is what 'KGF 2' producer Vijay Kiragandur said yesterday: "To date, we have maintained a practice of not mentioning the budget of any films, and it will be the case with this film as well (as quoted by TNIE)."
