'Baby' hit the cinemas on July 14. On Day One, the triangular love story directed by Sai Rajesh amassed about Rs 7 Cr (Gross) worldwide. Its success meet was held on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, producer SKN said, "As someone who started my career as a journalist, my first aim while making a movie is receiving appreciation from the media fraternity. 'Baby' has been loved by the media and the audience as well. I can't ask for more. The audience are walking out of the theatre with teary eyes, while the distributors are laughing their way to the bank. We struggled a great deal over three years. At the end of the day, the output turned out to be great. Had this film been even 30 minutes shorter, the point of the three major characters wouldn't have been understood by the audience. Every scene that is there was essential. As a producer, my career can be divided between 'Before Baby' and 'After Baby'. When I and Sai Rajesh started out, our only aim was not to make a flop. Nothing more than that. We didn't want the efforts of Anand and Vaishnavi to go in vain. Today, we have delivered a blockbuster."
Sai Rajesh said, "I consciously wrote this film as a slow-paced narration. Although I was scared that it was not fast, I was happy with the mood that the film was carrying. In the case of 'Hrudaya Kaleyam' and 'Kobbari Matta' (the first was directed by him and the second one was produced by him), I walked out of the theatre during the interval and came back home. I sobbed that those films might flop. But the 'word of mouth' turned positive by the matinee show. In the case of 'Baby', the response was many times stronger right from the premieres."
Anand Deverakonda said, "Our film has logged one of the biggest openings ever among small films. 'Baby' is bold because it reflects real life. The life experiences of many individuals across India have been brought out in the film. Sai Rajesh's writing is unpredictable. In a single screen theatre where I saw 'Baby', the response after the 9-minute foot-over bridge scene was thumping."
Co-producer Dheeraj Mogileni said that Thursday's 100 premiere shows witnessed houseful reception across the Telugu States.
