It looks like the ruling YCP is on its way out in Andhra Pradesh. As per at least one credible Exit Poll, Jagan Mohan Reddy will lose the Assembly election.
This is two-fold positive news for the Telugu film industry. Firstly, a hostile regime is getting trounced if the talk in political corridors is any indication. A YCP loss will mean that there won't be any witch-hunting by the next government. We saw how the YCP government forced the hands of local administrations to arm-twist the Telugu film industry by slashing ticket rates to unsustainable levels in 2021 and 2022. Of course, there was some course-correction after repeated requests by stalwarts like Chiranjeevi, but the fact that the CM even tried to destroy the financial muscle of the film industry was shocking in itself.
Secondly, Pawan Kalyan's Jana Sena Party doing well in the election would mean that healthy lobbying could be done with the TDP-led government for the general good of the industry. As someone who understands the practical issues plaguing the film industry, Power Star will be more sensitive to the lobbying.
Tollywood hopes that it will wake up to a bright day on June 4, the counting day.
