When theatres were shut down in April due to the intense second wave, many hoped that things will get better by July. While coronavirus cases have come down rapidly of late, the exhibitors' optimism is not soaring high.
There are no indications that there won't be a third wave in the near future. Some experts want the government to go slow with the unlock process. Theatres will likely operate only at 50% capacity until all adults are vaccinated.
If the third wave comes sooner than later, it will be over by September end or so. So, exhibitors have pinned hopes on the post-Dasara phase even if they have to operate at 50% capacity.
But if theatres are allowed to function from July, medium-budget films will find succor.
