Films drawing their source material from famous novels is nothing new. Many acclaimed filmmakers have done so in the past. Trivikram Srinivas, a voracious reader of Telugu literature and fiction, has reportedly done the same with 'Guntur Kaaram'. As per a report, the Mahesh Babu-starrer has its story based on a novel written by Yaddanapudi Sulochana Rani. 'Keerti Kireetalu' is its name, first published decades ago.
Music and dance form the backdrop and a family story is woven around the art forms. The novel tells the story of Rajya Lakshmi, who has an incredible voice and talent. She is rich, beautiful and highly privileged. But her fortune evaporates into thin air due to some reasons. The novel was chosen for the Andhra Pradesh Sahitya Akademi Award.
Going by the synopsis of the novel available on Amazon and on Wikipedia, 'Keerti Kireetalu' doesn't seem like possessing the quality of being adapted into a commercial entertainer in today's times. Trivikram must have borrowed just the premise and built a hero-centric story around it.
'Guntur Kaaram' is slated to be released in theatres on January 12.
